Kathryn Prentiss Mixon Denmark

Kathryn Denmark, affectionately known as Kaki, passed away peacefully at home on July 23, 2025, surrounded by her loving family and her faithful feline companion, Shadow.
Born in Leesburg, Florida, Kathryn built a life rooted in generosity, spirited joy, and devotion to others. She was preceded in death by her loving husband James L. Denmark, her infant son Marshall Prentiss Mixon, her parents Alma Roberts Prentiss and Harry Laverne Prentiss, her sister Jeanette Crapse Limehouse, and her brother Robert McConnel “Bobby” Crapse.
She is survived by her daughters Angela Mixon LaRue and Jodi Mixon Wuttke, her grandchildren Sarah Wuttke (Jake Tschaen) and Melissa Wuttke (Brian von Wuttke), and her great-grandchildren Emryk Waters, Clementine Waters, Lucy Tschaen, and Effram Tschaen.
Kathryn was known for her bright personality, quick wit, and Scrabble prowess. Her home was a haven of Southern hospitality, filled with delicious food, laughter, and love. She worked at Hogarth’s Grocery Store, where locals came to know and admire her, and later served as activities director in nursing homes across Hilton Head, Beaufort, and Fairfax before retiring in 1991.
She was a vibrant force in both Saint Helena Baptist Church and Hampton First Baptist Church, founding social groups and friendships that lasted a lifetime. Her love of life was matched only by her devotion to the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A celebration of her life will be held in a casual drop-in style at Beedos, 1634 Sea Island Parkway, Saint Helena Island, SC, Tuesday, July 29 from 4–6 p.m.
